Mehrnoosh Motlagh

Hi! My name is Mehrnoosh Motlagh, and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto pursuing a double major in neuroscience and biomedical toxicology, with a minor in immunology. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, learning new languages, and exploring new cafés in downtown Toronto.

My research interests lie in regenerative medicine, particularly how hydrogels can be designed for targeted and controlled drug delivery to support neural repair. This summer, I am honoured to join the Shoichet Lab as part of the Amgen Scholars Program, where I am excited to learn about approaches to support tissue regeneration and recovery after stroke using hydrogel-based delivery systems.

Previously, I had the privilege to be part of the Peever Lab in the Department of Cell and Systems Biology. There, I contributed to the development of a method to sleep deprive mice and investigated how chronic sleep deprivation influences neurodegenerative disease-related pathology in mouse models. 

I am very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to learning from researchers within and outside the Shoichet Lab and meeting fellow Amgen Scholars.
