Overview
The MIL EM lab has equipment to prepare, screen and collect data on negatively stained and cryo-fixed samples. Please visit the Rates & Fees page for pricing details.
Book Equipment & Services
New Users
- Please contact cryoem.mil@utoronto.ca to get started.
Returning Users
- Please book equipment and services using BookMyLab.
Inactive Users
- Trained users will be considered inactive if three or more months have elapsed between sessions.
- To reinstate booking privileges, please book a proficiency assessment with MIL staff. Refresher training may be required.
Training
- Training is available for independent/semi-independent use of equipment, with occasional restrictions imposed to prioritize operational uptime.
- Independent use will be granted at the discretion of MIL staff once users have shown they can operate the equipment safely and responsibly. The number of training sessions needed will vary by user.
- Training sessions may be booked by contacting cryoem.mil@utoronto.ca.

Imaging Equipment
Transmission Electron Microscopes
- 120kV Talos L120C, used for negative stain imaging and initial cryo-screening
- 200kV Glacios2 with Selectris energy filter, used for cryo-EM screening and data collection
Scanning Electron Microscopes
- 30kV Prisma E SEM, for 3 nm resolution surface scanning of samples
Sample Preparation Equipment
Plunge Freezers
- Leica EM GP2, used to prepare cryo-EM samples with single-sided blotting
- MiteGen Gravitri Plunge Cooler, used to prepare cryo-EM samples requiring a BSC (coming soon)
- Vitrobot Mark IV, used to prepare cryo-EM samples with double-sided blotting (coming soon)
