Overview & Purpose
With the goal to recruit and foster top trainees at Temerty Medicine and to build an academy of scientists at the forefront of research and innovation, the Faculty is launching Phase 1 of the Temerty Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowship (TPPF).
Presented as a comprehensive program coupled with up to 2 years of funding, this initiative aims to attract top talent and support exceptional postdoctoral trainees in their career in academia and/or industry. The program offerings include:
- Salary support to the postdoctoral trainee for up to 2 years
- Access to Temerty teaching mentorship that gives the trainee the opportunity to gain hands on experience in designing a lecture and teaching modules of an undergraduate course and receive constructive feedback, while building a teaching dossier towards an academic career.
- Access to the Temerty Entrepreneurship and Commercialization Platform which includes training, mentorship, strategic advisory & partnership and funding for those interested in non-academic training
- Access to editorial support for external Tri-Agency fellowship applications and applications to other institutional fellowship funding opportunities (ISIs, Provost program, other)
- Access to Temerty postdoctoral community resources that enhance the trainees experience and foster collaborative science across TAHSN.

Eligibility
- International and domestic applicants are eligible.
- A completed PhD or permission to defend a Doctoral thesis within the <6-month timeline. Year 1 on-campus postdoctoral fellows leading impactful projects with early signs of success are also eligible.
- Candidates must have demonstrated scientific potential, coupled with a strong scientific proposal.
- New postdoctoral applicants to the University of Toronto, who have agreed upon a project with a Temerty Medicine faculty member.
Value: $75,000 fellowship per year plus benefits for up to 2 years.
Duration: Jan 1, 2026-Dec 31, 2027
Application Requirements
- Completed 1-page application form (MS-forms link made available, draft questions in Appendix)
- Top 3 most significant contributions (half a page*), highlighting applicant’s role in the listed contributions (e.g. first author, shared first author, etc). Where contributions are not presented in the form of publications, applicants must highlight the impact of the activity and their role in this activity.
- Complete CV (NIH biosketch format; 5 pages*)
- 1-page* scientific proposal or research interest statement
- 3 letters of recommendation (1 page* limit for each reference letter). A reference must be from PhD supervisor and a letter of support from the proposed supervisor.
*All documents must be prepared in single spaced Times New Roman 12-point font, including citations if applicable with 2.5cm margins.
Application Process
Candidates must complete the application form and upload supplementary documents. Submit your application packages by Oct 1, 2025, 17h00 Eastern Time.
A review committee is dubbed with the following composition with at least 8 reviewers:
- 2 clinical faculty members
- 6 tenured faculty members
- 1 Delegate faculty/ Chair from the Office of the Vice Dean of Research and Health Science Education
The review committee will assess the applications (at least 2 reviewers assigned per application) and identify successful candidates based on the listed evaluation criteria for the program by Nov 1, 2025. Successful candidates will be notified by Nov 15th, 2025, to commence the fellowship in January 2026.

Award acceptance requirements
Recipients must apply for at least 1 external Tri-agency fellowship within their first year.
