Christopher Wallis

Wallis is a surgeon-scientist whose research program examines how physician-level social determinants influence surgical outcomes and care delivery, alongside characterizing outcomes of treatment for genitourinary cancer patients. His work leverages both quantitative and qualitative health services research techniques and integrates patient-centered and patient-reported outcomes. Wallis’s work has informed policies related to workplace equity, hiring processes, and medical student mentorship.

His research program has led to international, multi-disciplinary collaborations with researchers across the United States and Europe. He has participated in dozens of press interviews and delivered more than 40 invited professorships and lectureships across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Wallis has authored 275 peer-reviewed manuscripts, including 49 as senior author, with several published in BMJ and JAMA Surgery. He regularly serves as an external reviewer for clinical guidelines in the US, has participated in guideline development in Canada, and contributes extensively to peer review across numerous journals.

Notably, he has been recognized six times as a Top or Outstanding reviewer for The Journal of Urology, a leading peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-impact basic, translational and clinical research across the full spectrum of urology. Wallis’s contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Claire Bombardier Award for Excellence in Clinical Epidemiology, the Shafie S. Fazel Outstanding Resident Surgeon and Investigator, the George Armstrong-Peters Prize for outstanding productivity in the first five years of practice, and the Hold’em for Life Early Career Professorship in Cancer Research.
