CIHR Project Grant Editorial Review Policies

For the Spring 2025 Project Grant competition, the deadline for editorial review is Friday, February 28, 2025 at 11:59 PM.

The Office of the Vice Dean, Research and Health Science Education (RHSE) offers a complimentary CIHR Project Grant editing service to on-campus Temerty Faculty of Medicine principal investigators (PIs) as part of its array of Grant Development Supports.

Eligibility

The Nominated Principal Applicant must plan to hold their grant at the University of Toronto and Temerty Medicine; this must be indicated on the MRA when they submit their grant.

Grant submission process

Please reach out to Frances Hauser and Alex De Serrano as soon as possible if you are interested in this service. Additional details:

  •  In addition to the proposal, we can edit any of the following components:
    • Response to reviewers
    • Summary
    • Summary of Progress
  • Please email your document(s) in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • Feedback addresses how structure, clarity, persuasiveness, logic and grammar can be improved and whether your proposal meets all CIHR Project Grant Criteria.
  • For re-submissions, we recommend including the CIHR reviewer feedback in addition to the grant.
  • Our typical turn-around time is approximately one week.

Editorial queue

Grants are edited on a first come, first served basis. We try to accommodate all on-campus faculty who request editorial review, but if demand exceeds what we can provide, the editorial team applies the following prioritization strategy:

  1. For re-submitted applications, we prioritize applications that scored in the 74.99%-50% scoring band and above.
  2. Faculty can only have one grant in the editorial queue at a time. Once a grant has been returned, faculty may submit another if we still have capacity.

To ensure your grant can be edited, we encourage faculty to submit a draft well before the internal editorial deadline.

Please note that while editorial review is encouraged, Faculty must participate in the peer review process to be eligible for the Faculty’s Pathway Grants.
