Stream 1 EiR Funding: Milestone-Driven Expert Support

The EiR program is now accepting applications.

Stream 1 of the EiR program helps Temerty Medicine ventures achieve a pivotal commercialization milestone by providing:

  • Funding to hire and work with a subject matter expert (SME) or consultant
  • Personalized matching with an SME or consultant (if required)

Stream 1 Program Details

Funding

Up to $10,000 in non-dilutive funding.

Duration

Up to 6 months, with the possibility of a 3-month no-cost extension if required.

Use of Funds

Funding must be used to hire an SME or consultant to help the venture achieve a clearly defined milestone within a 6-month period. The engagement should directly advance the venture’s commercialization or translational readiness.

Examples of supported activities: regulatory strategy, reimbursement planning, business model validation, legal and contracts/licensing guidance, product development, etc.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be the founder of a health start-up venture and must either:
    • Hold a primary academic appointment at Temerty Medicine, or
    • Be supervised by a faculty member with a primary appointment at Temerty Medicine
  • If the venture currently holds intellectual property (IP), it must be assigned to the University of Toronto.
  • The venture must be an active client of the Health Innovation Hub (H2i) and have an assigned H2i lead mentor who supports their EiR application.
  • The venture must clearly define the milestone(s) to be achieved, describe how it will advance its commercialization objectives, and provide a compelling rationale for engaging external expertise to achieve the milestone(s) within a 6-month timeframe.

Stream 1 Application Process

The application package (one PDF file) should include the following:

  • Completed application form signed by principal applicant and H2i lead mentor
  • Quotes or proposals from potential service providers (see Section 5.2. in the application form; only if available)
  • Optional: 1-page venture executive summary

Applications are accepted on a triannual basis (January, May, September). The upcoming submission deadlines are included below:

  • Monday, January 12, 2026
  • Monday, May 11, 2026
  • Monday, September 14, 2026
