Stream 2 EiR Funding: Executive Engagement for Venture Growth
The EiR program is now accepting applications.
Stream 2 of the EiR program helps Temerty Medicine ventures drive their growth, secure funding, and/or negotiate partnerships/licensing deals by providing:
Funding to hire and work with a fractional executive
Personalized matching with a fractional executive (if required)
Stream 2 Program Details
Funding
Up to $50,000 in non-dilutive funding.
Duration
Up to 12 months, with the possibility of a 6-month no-cost extension if required.
Use of Funds
Funding must be used to hire a fractional executive (e.g., CEO, COO, or Business Development Executive) to drive growth, secure funding, and/or negotiate partnerships or licensing deals within a 12-month period. The engagement should directly improve operational capacity and commercialization readiness.
Examples of supported advisory activities: providing strategic advice on fundraising (seed, Series A), licensing or strategic partnership negotiation, driving business development or sales activities, etc.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for Stream 2 funding, projects must meet the following criteria:
The technology must be developed, at least in part, through a Temerty Faculty of Medicine, campus-based research lab at the University of Toronto. Technologies developed solely within affiliated hospitals or other academic or research institutions external to the University are not eligible.
At least one inventor must be a faculty member with a primary appointment at the University’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine and must have contributed to the development of the technology through campus-based research activities.
The invention must be disclosed to the University, through the University of Toronto Innovations & Partnerships Office, in accordance with the University’s Inventions Policy.
Intellectual property may be owned by the University, the inventor(s), or jointly with other organizations. However, the invention must fall within the scope of the University’s Inventions Policy and must not be governed solely by the intellectual property policies of an affiliated hospital or external organization.
The venture must be an active client of the Health Innovation Hub (H2i) and have an assigned H2i lead mentor who supports the EiR application.
Stream 2 Application Process
Expression of Interest (EOI)
For ventures that have not yet selected a fractional executive: Ventures that have not yet selected a fractional executive should complete the EOI form. The form helps the EiR Program identify and match ventures with executives whose expertise aligns with their commercialization needs. Once a suitable match is confirmed and both parties agree to proceed, the venture may complete and submit the full EiR Stream 2 Funding Application in collaboration with the selected executive.
For ventures that have already selected a fractional executive: Ventures that have already identified a fractional executive do not need to complete an EOI form and may proceed directly to submitting the full EiR Stream 2 Funding Application.
Full Application
The application package (one PDF file) should include the following:
Completed application form signed by principal applicant and H2i lead mentor
Optional: 1-page venture executive summary
