My name is Emily Yuan and I am originally from Calgary, Alberta. I will be entering my fourth year at the University of Toronto where I am doing a double major in pharmacology and nutritional sciences as well as a certificate of sustainability. Outside of research I enjoy cooking, baking, and yoga or pilates movement to destress.
Previously, I had the opportunity to research the expression of bitter taste receptors in breast cancer cells, under the supervision of Dr. Tan at the National University of Singapore. This summer, I will be conducting research under Dr. Carolyn Cummins – her lab investigates the role of nuclear hormone receptors in metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity. I am looking forward to learning more about the process of identifying new therapeutic targets, the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases, and being a part of the AMGEN program this summer!
