My name is Malak Abdrabo and I'm a third-year behavioural neuroscience student at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am particularly interested in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, with a focus on their pharmacological applications. Through my studies, I have developed a strong interest in translational neuroscience research and hope to pursue this work in the future.
I've gotten involved in behavioural neuroscience research at Memorial through Dr. Skinner and Dr. Thorpe's circadian rhythm lab, where we tested the impact of circadian rhythm disruptions on directional learning and memory in rat models. This summer, I'm excited to be working with Dr. James Kennedy on research that explores the intersection of genetics and neuropsychiatric disorders.
I love getting involved with scientific conferences happening on campus, such as those held by Women In Science and Engineering and the Scientific Endeavours in Academia (S.E.A) Interdisciplinary Conference. I'm also dedicated to promoting women's health through my involvement with the Memorial chapter of the Youth Council for Breast Health. In my free time, I enjoy needle felting, playing my guitar and roller-skating (when it's sunny out!).
