Zhi Ling Jiang

Hello! My name is Zhi Ling, I’m an undergraduate student studying health sciences and pursuing a minor in chemistry at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. My research interests lie at the intersection of the rapidly developing world of technology and medicine, where I aim to help build the future of medicine through translational research that combines biology, engineering and neuroscience one day!

What fascinates me most is solving and uncovering the mysteries of the brain, the organ that defines our experiences, identity and connection to the world, as well as its intricate relationships with the rest of our body. I am very excited to be working under Dr. Michael Fehlings and his lab this summer to contribute towards building innovative pharmacological or cellular treatments to treat traumatic acute spinal cord injury and investigate mechanisms behind neural repair and regeneration. 

Previously, I have had the privilege to learn from the teams of Dr. Suneil Kalia, Dr. Luka Milosevic, and Dr. W. Darlene Reid, whom have contributed to my aspirations as a scientist since highschool. Outside of the lab, I love to tinker by participating at hackathons, learning about new startups across the innovation ecosystem, running art events with Laurier Art Showcase and was an organizer of Hack the North, Canada’s biggest hackathon for the last 2 years. 

I am very grateful and honoured to be a part of the Amgen Scholars Program this year and look forward to learning from and applying this experience towards my dream of contributing towards advancing the future of science, medicine and healthcare.
