Welcome to Research and Health Science Education

The Office of the Vice Dean, Research and Health Science Education (RHSE) encompasses research and two major education activities in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine – Graduate Education and Undergraduate Education in the Life Sciences including Arts and Science and other interdivisional teaching.  RHSE also oversees the activities of the Department of Teaching Labs (DTL), advocates for graduate and undergraduate students and promotes innovative research and education in the heart of Canada’s largest health care research hub.

Research and Health Science Education

The Office of Research and Health Science Education serves an enormous community of scholars and students in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. This includes what is arguably the most comprehensive life sciences educational platform in Canada including more than 14,000 undergraduate students enrolled in 24 minor, major and specialist programs and more than 2,900 students enrolled in 32 graduate programs.

U of T researchers call for new approach to speech sound disorders in children

Researchers at the University of Toronto are urging a reconsideration of how children are assessed for speech sound disorders, a group of conditions that make the correct pronunciation of words difficult. They say mounting evidence suggests more of these disorders result from motor-based problems of the jaw, lips and tongue than previously realized, rather than from cognitive-linguistic issues only, such as sound processing and memory function.

Humans of RHSE: Introducing Dr. Emily Wood

Launch of new Harmonized Tri-agency Scholarship and Fellowship programs

The scholarship and fellowship programs administered by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) have been streamlined into a new harmonized program called the Canada Research Training Awards Suite (CRTAS). The new program launches this summer and provides graduate students and postdoctoral researchers with additional funding opportunities. 

We are in the process of updating our website to reflect these changes and will provide additional information as it becomes available.
