Dr. Mortha is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Immunology. He is leading a team dedicated to investigate how the microbiota and the immune system communicate to elicit beneficial and detrimental impacts during health and disease.

His vision of collaborative, interinstitutional training offers graduate students unprecedented opportunities for learning. In his laboratory, such collaborative spirit is the foundation of each project. This facilitates an inclusive and engaging training environment resulting in publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts across all levels of training.

Dr. Mortha is the recipient of the 2021 Gillian E. Wu Graduate Mentorship in Immunology Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to graduate teaching and mentorship and dedication to graduate students. As developer of new courses that foster engagement into the fundamental scientific processes of international education of graduate students, his mentorship and training mission breaches institutional boundaries and facilitates international, collaborative education.
