Postdoctoral Award Database

This award is open to researchers who self-identify as Black, First Nations, Métis and Inuit, or from other racialized groups. CAMH is dedicated to fostering a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive research environment for trainees. One 1-year award of $70,000 CAD stipend + $5,000 CAD research allowance is available.

The Postdoctoral Enrichment Program (PDEP) provides $60,000 over three years to support the career development activities and success of underrepresented postdoctoral fellows in a degree-granting institution or affiliate in the United States or Canada whose training and professional development are guided by mentors committed to helping them advance to stellar careers in biomedical or medical research.

Applicants must have secured a postdoctoral position with funding (including support by the mentor’s existing research grants) at a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada and must begin the postdoctoral position on or by the designated award commencement date. Applicants must be citizens of the United States or Canada (at the time of application).

The Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards are a one-time initiative designed to recruit international or returning Canadian students and postdoctoral researchers to Canada. These awards support the recruitment of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in priority areas, helping build capacity, strengthen the research ecosystem and enhance Canada’s global competitiveness.

The Canada Postdoctoral Research Award (CPRA) program recognizes and supports the next generation of outstanding innovators, knowledge workers, creative thinkers and researchers at a pivotal time in their careers. The program provides funding and flexibility, empowering Canadian and international leaders in innovation and scholarship of tomorrow to develop the skills to build world-class research and drive Canadian prosperity and competitiveness.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s (CCS) Research Training Awards program aims to support growth and innovation in the next generation of diverse cancer researchers across Canada at the master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels. This program seeks to build inclusive capacity in all areas of cancer research, while fostering interdisciplinary learning, knowledge translation, mentorship, and patient & community engagement opportunities. By supporting a diverse pool of talented researchers, the program will contribute to reshaping cancer research to be more equitable, inclusive, and impactful.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree by the date of award activation and must conduct their proposed research under a sponsor who holds a formal appointment as an assistant professor or higher rank at the host institution. A Principal Investigator must hold a firm academic position (as a primary appointment) which allows the individual to engage in independent research activities for the duration of the project and includes the ability to supervise trainees and publish research results. A researcher designated as the Principal Investigator must be based in, or formally affiliated with, an eligible Canadian Host Institution such as a university, research institute or health care agency. 

Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research associates (who are not independent investigators), Adjunct Professors or Status only appointments (except where they hold a firm academic position at another Canadian institution), technical support staff, or investigators based outside of Canada are not eligible to be a Principal Investigator (see below for Research Training Award eligibility. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit or Métis). International trainees are not eligible to apply.

The Canadian Network on Hepatitis C (CanHepC) recruits and provides training and stipend support to Master’s, Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral students as well as MDs whose research involves hepatitis C virus (HCV) and related diseases and who have demonstrated excellence early in their careers. All the trainees must be registered in a graduate or fellowship program at one of our affiliated institutions across Canada at the time of tenure of the award. In addition, the training program employs the knowledge and experience of mentors across Canada from multiple disciplines. Every mentor has played a major role in recent advances in hepatitis C research and has displayed their ability to train excellent researchers. Applicants must be supervised or co-supervised by a CanHepC mentor.

The CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is one of the most prestigious training opportunities in immunology and cancer immunology. It supports outstanding young researchers at the world’s leading universities and research institutions, providing the resources, mentorship, and professional development needed to launch independent scientific careers at the forefront of discovery. The fellowship can be performed in the United States or abroad but must take place at a non-profit institution. 

Unique in Canada, the Next Generation of Scientists Awards is an innovative program from the Cancer Research Society that provides crucial support to early-career researchers. It helps them establish their laboratories, build their teams, and launch groundbreaking projects to advance cancer research.

Since its creation in 2013, it has enabled 31 scientists to become established researchers in Canada. This program fosters the emergence of new discoveries and helps attract and retain talent in oncology research.

Applicants must hold Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status, and are required to complete both parts of the program (parts 1 and 2). 

Part 1: Postdoctoral fellowship
Must have completed at least 2 years of postdoctoral training at the time of accepting the fellowship.

Part 2: Operating Grant
Must obtain a faculty position in a Canadian university or affiliated accredited research center.

This award supports Latin American, Spanish and Portuguese postdoctoral fellows interested in collaborative research with one of the laboratories of the Cell & Systems Biology program. The Jacob and Estela Klip Fund will provide $15,000 (CAD) to support the travel and accommodation expenses for successful candidates to spend a period of 4-6 months in a laboratory of their choice in the Cell & Systems Biology Program. CURE Epilepsy awards grants for novel research projects that address finding the cures for epilepsy and address the goal of “no seizures, no side-effects.” Scientific Advisory Council (SAC) members may not apply for funding from or participate in grant funding recommendations for CURE Epilepsy while serving on the SAC. International applicants are welcome; you do not have to be a US citizen or working in the US to apply for this award. All materials must be submitted in English.
