The Temerty Medicine Research Excellence Award recognizes the innovative research and accomplishments of our faculty. Each year, this award goes to two early- to mid-career faculty members at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine: one will be awarded to a researcher in the basic sciences and the other to a researcher in the clinical sciences. A secondary goal of this award is to encourage faculty to develop a strong awards dossier that can be used for other awards and honours applications.
Each successful applicant will receive an award of $10,000 (cash to the applicant). The winning applicants will also have their submission materials revised by grant writing experts in the RHSE and submitted to an external award competition in the 12-month period following the award competition. The external award will be selected in consultation with the applicant and the award review committee.
The EOI stage consists of filling out a short form
Provided they meet the eligibility requirements, all applicants who submit an EOI will be eligible to submit a full application, but an EOI must be submitted to proceed to the full application stage.
Applicants must be faculty (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) whose primary academic appointment is at Temerty Medicine. For this award, applicants must be within 10 years of beginning their first independent research position (formal leaves will be taken into account).
Award winners will be expected to serve as a panel member on the Temerty Research Excellence Awards Committee in the following year’s competition.
Applicants must submit a complete Temerty Faculty of Medicine Research Awards Dossier. Applicants will be assessed for their research excellence and innovation by a panel of expert researchers at the University of Toronto. Only applicants that submit an EOI and the completed awards dossier by the deadlines above will be considered for the award.
All questions regarding the Temerty Medicine Research Excellence Award and completed final applications can be sent to Frances Hauser. Please put ‘Temerty Medicine Research Excellence Award’ in the subject line for all correspondence.
