Dr. Helen Miliotis is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in the Department of Physiology.

After completing her doctorate at the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto, her interest in combining scientific training with education led her to study student development theory at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, earning a Certificate of Leadership in Higher Education. She held a variety of teaching contracts before joining the Department of Physiology and becoming the inaugural program director for the MHSc Medical Physiology program in 2020. At the undergraduate level, Dr. Miliotis has taught foundational courses in physiology including PSL300:Human Physiology I. She is also part of the interdisciplinary teaching team that launched the new course JPM300:Research Readiness and Advancing Biomedical Discoveries to prepare life sciences students for research and other related careers. Her teaching aims to help students apply foundational core concepts to real-life scenarios and to develop competencies and transferable skills for a variety of career possibilities.

Dr. Miliotis has also received the Robert Goode Early Career Teaching Award from the Department of Physiology and the Temerty Faculty of Medicine Early Career Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentorship Award.
