Hello! My name is Ellanore and I am entering my fourth year in the Biomedical Science Program at the University of Ottawa. I love all things biochemistry and neuroscience-related but I have taken a particular interest in the study of neurodegenerative diseases. I have been fortunate to be able to cultivate this passion of mine this past summer by working in an ALS lab under the tutelage of Dr. Derrick Gibbings.
During my time at the lab, I worked to validate knock-downs of genes involved in ALS pathology that significantly affect readouts such as mislocalization of TDP-43. This research opportunity allowed me to work among some incredibly brilliant scientists who motivated me to continue to nurture my curiosity even outside of academia.
My interests apart from academia are being active, notably through long distance running and soccer, reading and trying new things! I am incredibly honoured to be a part of an exceptional cohort of Amgen Scholars this year and I look forward to developing my technical and interpersonal skills with like-minded individuals.
