Master’s Thesis Boot Camp - In Person
Work on your thesis over three dedicated writing days in a community of fellow master’s students. This intensive writing boot camp is designed for students who have completed research and are ready to write.
What is a master’s thesis boot camp?
A writing boot camp is an opportunity to work on your writing alongside fellow students in a quiet but collegial atmosphere. With instructor-led training sessions, you will receive support and advice on thesis writing to help you start, progress on, or complete your thesis.
This boot camp is offered in-person on the St. George campus and online over Zoom on April 22nd, 23rd and 24th from 9:30am to 5:00pm. In order to create a consistent community of supportive writers, you will be asked to commit to one of these formats for the full three days.
Each day will feature a schedule that includes instructor presentations, group discussions on writing strategies, and structured blocks of uninterrupted writing time.
To focus on your writing, you will be asked to stay away from emails and social media during the camp (lunch breaks excepted), giving you the opportunity to get some serious writing done, learn about the writing process, and discuss your writing strategies with the instructor and your peers.
Eligibility
The boot camp is open to all U of T Master’s students, but the following conditions apply:
- Your research and data collection should be complete; i.e., you should be at a point where your only task is write. The boot camp is for writing – not further reading and research!
- You are willing to set goals and strive to reach them, to commit to a two-day program, and to realize your potential for self-disciplined writing.
Logistics
For in-person participants: Each in-person participant is asked to pay $20.00 to defray the cost of coffee, tea and snacks (lunch is not included). Please bring the cash with you on the first day. In-person enrolment is limited to 20 students, and eligible applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
