Hi! I’m Lola, a second-year Honours Health Sciences student at McMaster University. I’m passionate about using biomedical research to address health disparities and create meaningful change for underserved communities.
My journey so far has allowed me to explore several areas of health research. In the summer of 2023, I contributed to a longitudinal study on breast cancer risk factors as an Emily Stowe Scholar at the Women’s College Hospital. The following summer, I worked on a demographic data analysis project through the SickKids Summer Research (SSuRe) Program and the CHILD-BRIGHT Summer Studentship Program (SSP). Currently, I’m an EDI-DI Health Research Intern for the CHILD-BRIGHT Network, where I work to promote equitable research practices. I’ve also co-authored various systematic, scoping, and narrative reviews and have presented my work at conferences and symposiums. In my future career, I aspire to integrate my love for research into clinical care as a clinician-scientist, ensuring that scientific advancements translate into real-world impact.
Beyond research, I love mentorship, creativity, and community engagement. In 2024, I founded Pathway Pavers, a community organization that helps Black high school students navigate career planning and post-secondary applications. I also hold leadership roles in different creativity-focused and community-driven clubs at my university and volunteer with various organizations.
In my free time, I love reading, writing, and learning new instruments. This summer, I’m excited to work with Dr. Chiavaroli in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at U of T as an Amgen Scholar!
