More than 350 trainees, alumni and community partners came together at the Bahen Centre for Information Technology on July 11 for the 2025 Temerty Faculty of Medicine Research Showcase — an annual, student-led event spotlighting the latest breakthroughs in health science research at the University of Toronto.
The showcase featured a keynote address by world-renowned thoracic surgeon, professor of thoracic surgery and biomedical engineering and the vice-chair for innovation in the department of surgery, at the University of Toronto, Shaf Keshavjee.
Keshavjee, who also serves as the director of the Latner Thoracic Research Laboratories and vice-chair for innovation at the University Health Network, shared insights on the future of organ transplantation, including how artificial intelligence could transform clinical decision-making in transplant medicine.
Throughout the day, attendees explored a wide range of research topics through poster presentations, mentoring sessions and career chats. The program included focused discussions on inclusive healthcare, translational neuroscience, cancer biology and molecular medicine — reflecting the diversity and depth of research across Temerty Medicine.
Justin Nodwell, vice dean, Research and Health Science Education, described the event as a celebration of the faculty’s research excellence. “It showcases the remarkable contributions of our inquisitive and driven students, our globally recognized faculty, our dedicated alumni and our valued partners across academia and industry,” he said.
With bold ideas and collaborative spirit on full display, the 2025 Temerty Medicine Research Showcase reaffirmed the faculty’s role as a leader in shaping the future of health science education and medical innovation.
