Five RHSE staff members were honoured at the 2024 Staff Impact Awards and Long Service Recognition ceremony on November 20 at the University of Toronto Faculty Club.
In recognition of the expertise, enthusiasm and commitment of outstanding employees, the annual celebration brings together staff from across the Temerty Faculty of Medicine to celebrate their accomplishments. In her welcoming remarks at the event, dean Lisa Robinson said, “The individuals and teams we will recognize this afternoon embody the very best that our community has to offer.”
The program honours staff who demonstrate excellence across areas including administration, leadership, inclusivity, community engagement and innovation, and recognizes employees who are celebrating milestone career anniversaries, ranging from 20 – 40 years of loyalty to the university.
Honoured for her extraordinary dedication and pivotal impact on the development of the RHSE portfolio, Sara Sharifpoor, received an Exemplary Leadership Award for her work as director. Sara has transformed a small group of staff from two different units into a high-performing, cohesive and efficient team that supports all areas of research and education across Temerty Medicine.
The Research Operations Team, which includes research operations officers, Vincent Lam, Betty Poon, Bryan San Luis and Megan Velancia of RHSE along with Gary Conlon and Holly Huizenga of Facilities and Space Planning, received an award for Service Excellence in a Laboratory Research Environment. This team is dedicated to improving laboratory research environments and has developed data-driven, cutting-edge approaches to moving research labs while maintaining the rigor and quality needed for the success of Temerty Medicine’s scientific undertakings.
In addition to a certificate, each award recipient received a print from Lisa Boivin, Temerty Medicine alumni and member of the Deninu Ku’e First Nation, whose artwork integrates themes of bioethics and healthcare with the land-based practices of Dene medicine.
