Temerty Faculty of Medicine Awards

Specific Eligibility of this Award: To be awarded to graduate students in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine who are involved in basic science research related to adults and/or children with cognitive disabilities. General OSOTF Eligibility: Academically qualified students will be eligible to receive aid from U of T's OSOTF based on financial need. Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and residents of Ontario as defined in OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) guidelines.

The Mary Gertrude l'Anson Scholarship (OSOTF) is based on academic merit and financial need and awarded to students who are registered full-time in a doctoral program (i.e. PhD) in the health sciences. This is one of approx. 20 awards that are available within the annual SGS University-Wide Awards competition (announced in April). In order to apply, all applicants are encouraged to review the application information on the SGS University-Wide Awards web page and contact their graduate unit to determine the unit's internal application deadline.

To be awarded to Indigenous/First Nations (Status, Non-Status), Metis and Inuit students who are Canadian citizen/permanent resident and resident of Ontario and is registered and enrolled at the University of Toronto who demonstrate financial need.

Each federal granting agency, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), offers its own doctoral awards. Applicants complete and submit one application in order to be considered for both a Canada Graduate Scholarships—Doctoral (CGS D) and the appropriate agency's doctoral award. The NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships – Doctoral (PGS D) program provides financial support to high-calibre scholars who are engaged in an eligible doctoral program in the natural sciences or engineering. The U of T competition is announced in July. The Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) program encourages excellence in graduate studies at publicly-assisted universities in Ontario. Since 1975, the OGS program has been providing merit-based scholarships to Ontario’s best graduate students in all disciplines of academic study. The scholarship program at U of T is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and the University of Toronto. The Province allocates OGS awards to universities specifying the number of awards that each may offer to their students annually.

The value of the OGS is $5,000 per session. Thus, awardees may receive $10,000 for two consecutive sessions or $15,000 for three consecutive sessions. In all instances, the awarding graduate unit will contribute to one-third the cost of the total award received by the students.

Each scholarship is tenable for one year (i.e., two consecutive or three academic sessions). The value and duration of each OGS award will be determined by the awarding graduate unit and detailed in the offer letter.

Specific Eligibility of this Award: To be awarded to Temerty Faculty of Medicine graduate (MSc/PhD) students on the basis of financial need who are studying within the field of molecular medicine as it applies to prostate cancer. General OSOTF Eligibility: Academically qualified students will be eligible to receive aid from U of T's OSOTF based on financial need. Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and residents of Ontario as defined in OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) guidelines.

Specific Eligibility of this Award: To be awarded to Ph.D. students (Year 1 – 5) studying in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and researching in one of the following areas: arthritis, cerebral palsy, cancer, diabetes, glaucoma, heart and stroke, lung disease, mental health, neurodegenerative disease, or nutrition. Note: Any one student may not hold the award more than three times in the five-year period of PhD study.

To be awarded to Indigenous students of aboriginal ancestry (Status, Non-Status, M?is, Inuit) on the basis of academic achievement and previous and/or intended future contribution to the native community. Students must be studying full-time and involved in course work. One award is given to a student in an undergraduate program (Arts and Science, Music, Physical Education and Health, APSC) and one award is given to a student in a graduate program (masters or doctorate) or second-entry professional program (Dentistry, Education, Law, Medicine).

The University of Toronto Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship program provides funding to Graduate Faculties to increase opportunities for hiring postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented groups, specifically Indigenous and Black researchers. These fellowships will enable postdoctoral researchers to grow their scholarly profiles, undertake academic work at the University of Toronto, and strengthen the research environment at the University with diverse perspectives.

This funding is designed to help the University compete with peer institutions for top-tier candidates, and to support the University in meeting its institutional goal of fostering increased diversity and representation at all levels of teaching, learning and research. Nominees must be nominated by their prospective Faculties/divisions following the timeline and processes outlined below. While the nomination/application process will normally begin with faculty advisors/mentors, funding for the successful nominees will be provided to their respective Faculty Research Office for administration.
